How to treat a person suffering from attacks?

Many of us while experiencing might think that this will pass and delay it thinking ‘I’m fine. It’s just a mild attack”. It’s very important to accept the seriousness of such a symptom.   • Immediately stop doing whatever you’re doing and lay down or sit carefully. If you see another person with such a symptom help them with support and assistance to sit down.
  • Call the emergency number for help[ or dial the ambulance number and seek medical help as soon as possible
  • Meanwhile, until the arrival of the ambulance sit up if the breath becomes short or lie down if you feel like fainting or dizziness.
  • The most important thing to do is move the person under attack to a comfortable position. Try to bend their knees and keep support on the shoulders. You could use a cushion or the support of a pillow under the knees or behind. If no such thing is available nearby use the support of your hands.
  • If you spot a pharmacy or medical store nearby get an aspirin tablet (300mg) from it and ask the person to chew it slowly. Don’t give this tablet to a person who is under 16 years of age.
  • Try to talk to the person in a mild tone and keep them responsive. If you notice that the person is not responding then start a CPR.

What is CPR?

CPR-cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a technique that combines chest compression to enable the person to breathe while experiencing a cardiac arrest.

How to perform CPR?

-Kneel by the side of the person and put the heel of your hands at the middle position of the chest. Place both your hands and interlock your fingers, make sure that the fingers are not touching the ribs.

-Don’t bend your arms; keep them straight and slightly lean over the person.

-Start pressing hard to a depth of about 5 to 6 cm and the release the pressure.

-Allow the chest to rise

-Repeat this compression process for almost 30 times with 100 to 120 compressions per minute

-After the compression, you need to perform two rescue breaths,

-In this process, you need to open the airway.

-Tilt-back the head of the person by placing a hand on the forehead and with the other hand lift the chin

-Gently pinch the soft part of the nose to close it and allow the mouth to open

-Make sure that the head is still tilted, take a deep breath and place your mouth over the person thus forming a seal.

-Blow into their mouth until the chest rises, then release it and watch the chest drop

-If you see that the chest is not rising, check whether the airway is open or not

-In case you’re not comfortable to perform mouth-to-mouth (rescue breaths), continue with the chest compression
